travel | navassa ✿ day one

1:16 PM

as long as i can remember i have spent almost every weekend after the 4th of july in navassa, nc. my grandfather was born & raised there & for the past 31 years, the city has had a homecoming filled with family & festivities. navassa, nc is a small town at the confluence of the brunswick and northwest cape fear rivers in brunswick county, nc.

although the homecoming begins on the thursday after the 4th, my family always manages to arrive late friday evening or early saturday morning.

✿ -- homecoming schedule:

thursday - youth block party.
friday - oldie but goodies night.
saturday - parade, fish fry/bbq in the ball diamond (& there use to be a boat ride at night, don't know why they stopped that).
sunday - usually there's not much besides various bar be ques in the neighborhood.
monday - everyone goes home.

✿ -- the parade:

♡ -- & the parade starts..

♡ -- ari searching for the cars that are throwing candy out the window, lol.

-- bike club

-- while most kids grow up riding bikes, navassa children grow up riding dirt bikes, quads & motorcycles.

-- my cousin with her son & niece riding quads.

-- horse always make an appearance.

-- then my grandad's niece ended the parade in style.

-- on the ball diamond there's food, music, baseball games & activities for the kids.

-- because it was so hot, we left the ball diamond & headed back to the house so the kids could play & so we could soak in some air conditioning!

-- that night my cousins & i went on "the ice cold cruise" in wilminton.
